This month’s Team Member Spotlight interview is with Mrinalini Sharma! Mrinalini joined the Velocity team earlier in 2020 and has absolutely crushed it during a unique and challenging year. Her positive attitude, problem-solving customer-focused mindset, and commitment to teamwork make her a shining example of Velocity’s culture in action.
In our interview with Mrinalini, we touch on topics ranging from what makes solving our customers’ problems so fulfilling to what she thinks has set Velocity apart from the competition during the COVID shutdown.
How long have you been with Velocity Transport and what is your role on the team?
I joined in January, so it’s been an interesting first year! I was nervous about joining the team and self-conscious about my experience, but leadership embraced me and gave me all the tools I needed to succeed.
My role is as a Customer Operations Representative. The Velocity leadership team spent time learning about the strengths I bring to the table and helped put me in the greatest position to succeed and be fulfilled!
What do you love most about working with customers?
I love being able to get in the trenches with them when they have a problem. When the puzzle pieces have to be put back together, that problem-solving really keeps me going.
Supporting the customers, solving problems, and building relationships always keeps me interested. And every customer is different, so there is never a dull moment!
Why do you think the Velocity team has thrived while working remotely?
Companies like Velocity that prioritize relationships have had the opportunity to thrive during this unique time. People want to be asked how they’re doing and how their family is. They’ve let their guard down, and there is a huge opportunity to build more intimate business relationships.
We’re people-people, which is tough when we’re all isolated, but the new way that business is being done plays to Velocity’s greatest strengths!
How do you personally separate work and life while working at home?
It’s always a work-in-progress! Our team is made up of such hard workers that our leadership team actually has to make sure we take time for ourselves!
I’ve always looked at being busy as a good problem to have, but at home, I have to create a conscious separation between a workspace and the rest of my life. I have a dedicated space for work, and work HAS to stay in there. Creating that mental breakpoint is critical, and it allows me to recharge and rest. We have to be fully charged to do our best work – to work smarter, not harder. And I know I get more done when I take care of myself.
You were recently named a #VelocityStrong MVP! What does that honor mean to you?
I was so surprised; I didn’t expect it at all! To me, from a growth perspective, it pushed me to reflect on how far I’ve come in such a short time. To think about all the things I’ve learned.
While the accolade is for me, it’s not a one-person show with any of my customers. I’m just part of a team that all leans on one another. So to me, it’s a team award.
What Velocity core value means the most to you and why?
I’m going to cheat the question and give you two! Relentless Service and Professional Excellence.
This is a work ethic-driven company. Everyone knows they have to do their part to make Velocity successful. Every single day, I come into work with something to improve upon. We’re all driven to give our all for our customers, but also give our all to improve ourselves.
We help each other and teach each other, and that’s embodied in those two values. You can’t have one without the other.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work, under normal circumstances?
One of my favorite things has always been traveling. Now, being a year out of college, I love visiting my college friends and going on trips with them. COVID has gotten in the way of that, but I look forward to seeing them again as soon as it’s safe.
COVID has also been a serious reflection time for me, thinking about what I’m thankful for and what everyone in my life means to me.
